BULBS
We carry a vast selection of bulbs in spring in late
summer and through the fall. We also carry Paperwhites, and Amaryllis
throughout the year. (They need no special treatment and grow very
well indoors.) Bulbs are an easy and carefree way of gardening.
They give your garden hundreds of days of color and are well suited
for Maine's climate.
Our spring bulbs consist of Begonias, Caladium, Iris,
and Lilies. These bulbs can be planted outdoors once the ground
temperature begins to warm. Be cautious not to plant in damp
areas. Even though some spring bulbs can tolerate a degree of moisture,
when bulbs are freshly planted they are prone to dampening off in
Maine climates.
Our fall inventory of bulbs consists of Crocus, Daffodils,
Feesias, Hyacinths, Snow Squills, and Tulips. Daffodils, and
Tulips are available at bulk rates. These bulbs can be planted outdoors
until the ground freezes. We recommend planting with bulb fertilizer,
and treating all of your fall bulbs with and animal repellant. Fall
bulbs can be grown for indoor use, if cold treated for 12-15 weeks
(preferably in a cooler where a constant cool temperature can be
obtained.) Fall bulbs should be removed from the soil once flowering
and growth has ceased. They should then be place in a dry area for
the summer, to be planted again in the fall. This will give a consistency
of each bulb year to year.
