Like 'Full Moon' PP19367, the first Big Bang™ Coreopsis, 'Redshift' is also the result of 8 years of intensive breeding work and the crossing of 8 species of Coreopsis by hybridizer Darrell Probst. They share the same parentage and are both clump-forming varieties with foliage that is intermediate between the threadleaf and grandiflora types.
'Redshift' blooms from midsummer into early fall, producing large 2 inch diameter, creamy yellow flowers with a rich red ring around the gold button-like center.
In fall, the flowers that open after cool nights range in color from solid red to pale yellow with red streaking through the petals. It's a fantastic color effect in the fall garden, especially when combined with other fall-blooming perennials. If you are growing this plant in the northernmost zones, frost may come and nip the last round of buds before they can open, thus you may only see red streaked flowers rather than solid red ones.
Coreopsis is easy to grow, making it a good choice for beginners. One plant will provide you with long-lasting cut flower bouquets all summer long.
